To apply for your License to Carry, you should follow these steps:

  • Confirm your eligibility: http://texaschl.us/eligibility.htm
  • Although not required, it is recommended to apply for your license with the State of Texas before attending class. You will be given a checklist with items you will need to submit (one of which is a CHL 100 that you'll receive from us upon successful completion of the LTC Course) To apply click here: https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/chl/

Fees for the application submission are for the background check and funding the LTC program staff and administration. These fees are non-refundable and are usually $140. ***EFFECTIVE ON 01 SEPTEMBER, THIS FEE IS BEING REDUCED TO ONLY $40. Check the link above for other updates effective on 1 Sep.

Discounts are available for seniors & veterans. (This fee does not include your LTC Class)

  • Enroll in and attend an available Texas LTC course through Front Sight Tactical. Course requirements include
    • Minimum 4 hours of classroom instruction
    • Pass a written exam (70 passing)
    • Pass a proficiency demonstration (score 175 out of 250 possible points)

The CHL Proficiency Course is fired at three distances:

       3 yards – 20 rounds fired

       7 yards – 20 rounds fired

       15 yards – 10 rounds fired

**The License to Carry course assumes that the student is proficient with a handgun. You will be required to safely load and unload your handgun and fire the required rounds within the allotted time. If you have ZERO experience with the use of a handgun and/or are unfamiliar with your handgun - take a Basic Firearms Class first!

The instructor will provide you a completed form CHL-100 indicating your attendance and whether you have passed the course.

  • Mail the complete application package to the Texas DPS including all of the items on the provided check list

The time from submission to receiving your license will vary depending on the number of other submissions. If your application is complete and error free, you may receive your license in as little as 4 weeks. You may NOT carry a concealed firearm prior to receiving your license in the mail.

Should your application be missing any required information, you will receive written notice from the Texas DPS and have 90 days to submit the missing information.

What Should I Bring To Class?
1.  Photo ID (Driver's License or ID Card)
2.  Handgun .32 caliber or larger (bring on range day) 
3.  50 Rounds of ammunition (FMJ) in the box
4.  Hearing protection (over the ear or ear plugs)
5.  Eye protection (Sunglasses, eyeglasses or safety)
6.  Cash or Credit Card for payment
